The Citadel Of Saladin was named after Saladin El Ayouby the king and army leader who build it, at the twelfth century.
Saladin El Ayouby is the founder of the Ayyubid civilization and rule.
The Citadel has witnessed countless number of the historical events.
The citadel dates back to the Ayyubid and the ottoman rule in Egypt. The Citadel is sometimes referred to as Mohamed Ali Citadel , as it contains the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, which was built by the ottoman ruler of Egypt Muhammad Ali between 1828 and 1848
Why it was built on this specific location?? The King Saladin El Ayouby selected this location as it is in the middle of the city and on a hill which allows him to see any resistance or foreign attacks may happen as the king and his army was able to protect and defend the city.
